DUTCH DESIGN BY VLISCO FABRICS & ORANGE BABIES

Orange Babies and Vlisco join forces for the Orange Babies 2012 Gala

Amsterdam 2012 June 27 – Twenty-seven Dutch designers, including Bibi van de Velden, Bas Kosters and Addy van den Krommenacker, are currently working on exclusive accessories made of Vlisco ‘wax print’ couture fabrics. This initiative is the result of a collaboration between Orange Babies and Vlisco Netherlands B.V. The colourful handmade creations are to serve as centrepieces on the dinner tables during the Orange Babies ‘Chic ‘n Soul’ 2012 Gala Event, to be held on Saturday, 23 June, at the Hotels van Oranje on the beach at Noordwijk. These beautiful wearable works of art will be sold during the Gala, the proceeds of which will go to the numerous Orange Babies projects for mothers with HIV and their babies in Africa.

Vlisco

The Dutch company Vlisco is world-famous for its traditionally crafted ‘Dutch wax print’ fabrics. Since its establishment in Helmond in 1846, Vlisco fashion fabrics have been an essential part of African culture, with global recognition in the art, design and fashion worlds. Every three months, Vlisco launches a new collection of wax print fabrics, Luxury Edition fabrics and accessories. According to Hans Ouwendijk, CEO of the Vlisco Group, apart from this intensive involvement in Africa and deep roots in the positive world of fashion and design, Vlisco and Orange Babies also share a number of core values: “Since the very start, the Vlisco Group has contributed positively to the empowerment of women. This type of partnership is in perfect keeping with the essence of our Corporate Social Investment philosophy: to stimulate the economic development of and improve the quality of life in our markets. That is why we welcome this collaboration with Orange Babies.”

Dutch design meets Orange Babies

Vlisco fabrics are made with passion and craftsmanship. Not only are consumers pleased with the results, but designers who have become acquainted with ‘Dutch wax prints’ have also fallen completely under the spell of these immensely colourful fabrics and their strong flair. This is why Orange Babies and Vlisco have joined forces and asked Dutch designers to create a signature design using Vlisco fabrics to serve as dinner table centrepieces during the Orange Babies Gala. Among the designers who have donated their talents to this unique project are the following major and well-known fashion names: Frans Molenaar, Addy van den Krommenacker, Monique Collignon, Bibi van de Velden, Claes Iversen, Corné Gabriëls, Bas Kosters and Mattijs van Bergen. Roger Gerards, Creative Director of Vlisco, has the following to say about Vlisco’s contribution: “We often work together with African designers and Vlisco is also collaborating more and more with designers outside of Africa. This project with Orange Babies is very exciting within this context. It allows us to show how our designs form a source of inspiration for the international fashion and design world.”

Chic ‘n Soul

The sixth edition of the annual Orange Babies Gala will be held on Saturday, 23 June 2012. Once again, the location chosen for the event is the exclusive Hotels van Oranje on the beach at Noordwijk. The Chic ‘n Soul theme is a tribute to the most ravishing black beauties of soul, from Aretha Franklin to Tina Turner, and all other artists and performers who draw their inspiration from Africa’s vast beauty.
