9 APRIL 2015 — On the 26th of March 2015, Vlisco Group and ISETAM launched the Vlisco Tailor Academy in Kinshasa: An integrated tailoring education program for talented, underprivileged and motivated girls to reach their financial autonomy.

The four months program trains 15 talented and motivated Congolese young women into becoming potential Vlisco tailors by empowering them with high level tailoring skills, teaching them Vlisco’s tailoring techniques and its business model.

Sharing the same vision as Vlisco Group, a vision of empowering women through learning, labor and leadership, and being known as one of the best fashion institution in Kinshasa, ISETAM was the ideal partner to work and to unite forces with for the success of this program.
In this effect, both Vlisco and ISETAM made their partnership public by officially signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the induction ceremony.

Among speakers during the ceremony were Marie-Colette Ikondojoko Bonsei (General Director of ISETAM), Monique Gieskes (CSI Group Director), Dona Moleka (CSI Project Coordinator DRC) and our special guest Patience Ndenge Barandenge (DRC Vlisco Ambassador 2014) who congratulated the girls and shared a short message on the importance of women education, emphasizing on Vlisco’s tailor academy initiative with regard to the International Woman’s day theme “Empowering women – Empowering humanity”.

The ceremony then ended with a quick visit of the school and its facilities among which we visited some of their class rooms, their expo and workshop room.
